About Us

Author: Sarah

It all started with a singlet.  One day I realised that I had been wearing the same two maternity singlets on rotation for maybe six or seven years, despite the fact that I had not been pregnant or breastfed a child for some time.  The singlets were horrible, daggy, worn, and faded.  Why didn't I buy new ones?  Because I couldn't, no-one makes my size any more.  I have searched high and low, and although one or two brands make singlets that claim to have underbust support, they just don't support me as well as the maternity ones, the fabric is thinner, and they certainly can't be worn in company.

So as usual, when I can't buy what I want, I asked mum to make me one.  As usual, we joked that mum should go into business making stuff for other people who can't buy the type of clothes they want.  As usual, we agreed that mum is too creative to make the same thing twice, or indeed to follow client instructions!  But this time was different.  We realised that I can't be the only one who wants beautiful, comfortable, plus size clothing in natural fibres.  We decided to do something about it.

A couple of years down the track here we are.  After making many samples, canvassing opinions, trying on with friends, emailing/calling/visiting gazillions (yes that's a real number) of potential suppliers, seeking fabrics, tweaking designs, and generally driving ourselves nuts, we think we've made something pretty special.  We didn't think a singlet would cut it alone, so we made the pants and top to go with it.  And since we've been working on this for a while, we've already got some ideas in the pipeline for the next range.  We'd love to hear your ideas too!

"About us" wouldn't be complete without a big thank-you to Brian and the team from Boo Radley for their patience and understanding, and being the manufacturer we can trust with our brand.  Thanks to everyone else who's helped us get this far.  We're looking forward to bringing you beautiful things from here on!
